Accuracy Improvements of Mammograms

In the world of breast cancer care, and indeed medical research, there are constant breakthroughs being discovered to improve cancer detection, care and treatment.

As well as self-examinations, mammograms are an important tool to detect and predict breast cancer, and recent developments have meant that mammograms could now be more accurate than ever before.

The breakthrough, discovered at Melbourne University, found that certain features of a mammogram provided much more information about the potential for future breast cancers.

The technique focuses on bright spots that show up in a mammogram, which researches have discovered provides a better picture of a patient’s family history, genetic predispositions, and mammographic density, which allows for individual treatment and future breast screening management plans.

It is hoped that this new technique could save lives, and change routine mammographic screening across the world.
