A holistic approach to cancer care
One of the key recommendations I make to my patients is to implement an ongoing, holistic wellness regime to support their medical treatment.
Understandably, cancer sufferers often feel unwell or not like themselves throughout treatment, and can be depressed and anxious throughout this time. And yet it is so important during cancer treatment for patients to try to maintain physical and emotional wellbeing – an optimistic outlook is a great way to approach healing.
This is why I am so pleased to be part of Chris O’Brien Lifehouse whose motto says it all: “Treating People, not just Cancer”.
Lifehouse is a state-of-the-art, independent cancer treatment and research hospital, with an integrated approach, supporting cancer patients and also their families, who are often front-line carers.
Through its LivingRoom program, Lifehouse offers a range of therapies such as acupuncture, massage and reflexology, nutrition tips, physiotherapy and counselling, along with more mainstream medicine.
Have a look on the Lifehouse website for more information about these important complementary medicine offerings – I truly think they help patients through the cancer journey. But everyone is different, and a tailored program is essential. Treatments with evidence-based benefits, overseen by practitioners with specific experience in treating cancer, are the way to go.
